What would a North Korean EMP weapon do to the US: An introductory example of the insanity.
So maybe if we start with an illustrative example, we can see one simple example of the insanity.
This is the article that got me to thinking
well that and the Las Vegas shooting. but we can talk about that later.
Read the article. to sum up, there is a realistic probability that N. Korea has an EMP weapon that can take up maybe 90% of the American power grid and everything electronic that is running when it goes off. a government estimate is that this could lead to the death of 90% of the population.
They shut down the Govt agency responsible for studying this problem has been closed.
Typical.
If you ignore it maybe it will go away.
Except it won't.
The thing is, that this is really indicative of a very collective American attitude, which is basically, I can ignore things i don't want to deal with and they will go away. they won't.
This is a serious threat to the people of the US. Why is this news constrained to a few oddball websites, with no mention on TV.? obviously because no one cares. and that's the truth. the average American takes the position that if the Apocalypse comes there is nothing they can do about it except to stock up on survival supplies and weapons.
has anyone considered what would happen if most of the electronics and electrical systems where destroyed in America?
no national power gird. gone.. 10 years minimum to replace.
that means no hospitals. no gasoline stations, no stores, no freezers, no refrigerators, no washing machines.
i could keep going but you get the idea. no food distribution systems. all the computers cease to function
this would be the complete breakdown of society as people know it. Americans are not prepared for that. in any way. there will be panic and insane riots in cities and all major towns. society would go backwards hundreds of years and no one has the skills to live like that today.
and no one seems to be addressing the situation and there is a madman sitting in the office of the presidency.
this is how America functions today. no one on the republican side has done anything to prevent a madman from taking office. they are scared of his supporters. the democrats, the republican enablers for 35 years, don't have the power to do something directly and don't have the balls to take real action.
and life rolls on. people are so busy trying to get by from day to day that there is no mass movement for change. frankly the vast majority of Americans have no clue what the real threats to their daily lives are and how to deal with it. for 50% of the population all government outside of the military and law enforcement is basically evil. when you start with that premise you can easily see why America cannot solve any of its long term problems. what that 50% are really saying is that authoritarianism is the only answer. as long as they are the authoritarians.
how do you fix a system like this?
how do you fix a system where people think working 80 hours a week to survive is a badge of honor, not massive surf style exploitation of the labor force?
there is no political left in the US. none. any mention of any kind of general policy for social good is immediately shot down as being godless communism. there is no debate, only, it will never work here.
and so it wont.
how do you save a society from itself when it has no desire to deal with reality?
you cant.

ReplyDeleteHe is but a symptom. I'm here in the US, at ground zero for what could take us to the collapse of what remains of Western Civilization, and no one is paying attention. The level of disconnect is unreal... everybody knows that EMP's are possible, but nobody has put two and two together, and there has been nothing in the mainstream media about that Instead, we sit hypnotized by cable news (Fox or MSNBC/CNN, pick your koolaid) and even Americans with advanced degrees get caught up in that 24 7 cycle of outrage because
ReplyDelete1) Trump uses it to his advantage, classic bait and switch
2) it takes energy and time better spent on local and state issues, and on getting ready for the 2018 elections and working to get some actual progressive/ democratic socialist/ actively anti racist and anti sexist candidates in, and then when there are enough votes to override a veto, he can't do much. Yes he's trying to run the government by executive order, but he's continuing a long time trend, and now, finally, We The People just might wake up and say, enough already.
3) Pence is worse... he has establishment backing, and if those who are calling for impeachment read his theology, they just might have second thoughts and instead remember that the three branches are squabbling like they're supposed to... so far a federal judge has defied every travel ban and that's just for starters.
4) one way or another, Donald will be out of the Oval Office eventually, and if we reduce everything to the latest tweet or whatever, then We The People will go back to complacency when we get another corporate Democrat in, and a rotten system will keep decaying no matter how much formaldehyde we inject into it.
We could take the Age of Trump as a sign that something has gone horribly wrong, instead of either clutching our pearls over the latest outrage, or pontificating about how a third rate reality TV star has ushered us into a realm of Baudrillardian simulacra, we could start to strategize, take some concrete steps. Right now, it is an open question whether or not a country built upon the contradictions of Enlightenment philosophy and slavery and genocide can survive…
