Twitter: A perfect communications medium for a society gone mad
twitter is a medium with a strong tendency towards shock effect. and its impossible to have any reasonable, serious, factual discussion of any complex serious subject in this format. Thus it is perfect as a communications medium for the current times. It is the the ultimate form of reality TV. its fast, shocking and totally devoid of seriousness.
and its the perfect tool to use to stir up the rabble as fast as possible in today's world.
Americans today function on an absurd basic premise that everything can be reduced to a 10 second sound bite and whomever screams the loudest is right.
that's not a rational logical discussion. that's egomaniacs screaming at each other.
you cannot solve problems when you cannot have a rational discussion about them.
its not just twitter. has anyone noticed that most news articles today are much shorter and less in depth that what news was 40 years ago? perhaps now would be a good time to go back and look at the wash post stories about Watergate that were published in the early 70s. one should carefully study those articles in comparison to what we have today.
America as a nation suffers from a severe case of ADD. That is how the powers that be maintain their control, and it doesn't require any work on the part of the powers that be to cause ADD, the society causes it, self interest at any cost causes it, the American John Wayne mindset causes it.
you cant have a meaningful, stable society when the only tool you have to implement it is rugged individuality.
