Healthcare: Yet another example of American insanity.
Where does one even begin on this one? America, the only country in the developed world where there is no national health care system. A country that rejects the idea of a national interest in the health of its citizens. A society that deliberately and willfully encourages shitty health habits at every turn. here drink this liter of coke. here eat this plate of food that would feed 4 people in any other country in the world. here drive your car to the strip mall 300 yards away, because its impossible to walk there safely. (that would be a good post, how America actively does everything it can to discourage walking) A country where its not even possible to have a logical rational discussion about what the best options are. A country that actively promotes the health care industry as a path to riches instead of as an activity for the good of their fellow man ( oh wait, any discussion of the common welfare is automatically labelled an act of communist subversion.)
I'll never forget the idiot i saw on Fox news one day, years ago before i left. this idiot was screaming about how America had the best health care system in the world, and he could prove it: since American spent more money on health care than any other country that meant it had the best system.
this fucking moron was seriously using this as a logical argument to prove health care was better here than anywhere else. how do you argue with that kind of stupid? you don't, you walk away from it.
health care is a a for profit product in the US. its about how much the owner of the pill or the hospital can make, or how much cash a surgeon can get for an hour of work. it has little or nothing to do with helping people.
but then that's the America way. everyone is on their own, there is no collective good ( any discussion of collective good is forbidden as an act of communist subversion)
health care is always a collective good. anyone who has lived in a densely settled area would know that. but then a large chunk of America doesn't live like that. and because Americans are incapable of seeing anything beyond their own experience they cant figure it out.
its probable the next instance of a Spanish flu like disease might radically alter that, it usually does.
the American health care system is hopelessly broken in its current state. it isn't going to be fixed, for the following reasons.
1 it would have to be run as a national endeavour to fix the problems. that is totally impossible to do in the US because doing so would be godless communism which is of course, by definition anything that doesn't cause people to rely on themselves for everything in life.
2. health care corporations will never allow it. there is simply too much money at stake. and America is a society where profit is far more important than the well being of the people.
3. America can never admit to itself there is any national interest in anything except bombing brown people around the world and making a profit.
its not going to be fixed under the current system. its part of the societal breakdown that is going on.
there is no way to fix it because in the "True believer in America" mindset any solution would violate the almighty core American principle of profit before people. that mind set isn't going to change as it is at the heart and soul of what it means to be an American. therefore there is no solution. stop looking for one.
this might be a good time to mention Dimitri Orlov's work on the five stages of collapse. I'd place collapse of the health care system at the forth stage of collapse on his scale of collapse. that's right before total societal breakdown.
oh wait America is the country that gleefully and joyfully sells 47+ weapons so a rich guy like Steven paddock can have the ultimate video game experience.
and then wonders why 600 people get shot at a concert one night.
if that isn't societal breakdown I have no idea what is.
god forbid we even discuss the fact that after this shooting a large number of people have to use crowd funding to pay the medical bills.
Don't kid yourself America, the rest of the educated world knows you are bat shit insane.
