Here is what I would do to prepare for for the coming collapse.
So it occurred to me this morning that maybe I should post a general guide about how one should survive the coming collapse. Most people haven't ever really thought this thru and think its a matter of having guns ammunition and food. Honestly if it comes to that point you are already history. The fact is that the best way to survive a societal collapse is not to be in the middle of it. So this guide is based on that idea. Now its possible a gun could be useful no doubt but there are far far more important things than a gun. so lets discuss how I would prep for the worst. Mind you I am a former American paratrooper, who was a member of the ranger regiment, did SFAS, spent 2 years surviving in the jungle etc. So here is what I would do.
1. Most important thing. Documents.
Yes that's right documents. My strategy is based on getting OUT of the danger zone as fast as possible and establishing myself somewhere else as fast as possible. Therefore documents are the most important thing you can have. What do you need? I would say the following:
1. Most important thing. Documents.
Yes that's right documents. My strategy is based on getting OUT of the danger zone as fast as possible and establishing myself somewhere else as fast as possible. Therefore documents are the most important thing you can have. What do you need? I would say the following:
- Passport
- Birth certificate
- Marriage certificates, divorce certificates etc
- High school diploma and all university degrees (v v v important)
- All honors awards etc
- All family history paperwork ESPECIALLY if you have relatives from Europe or another target country
- Possibly a list of bank accounts property etc that you had in the states, hard to say if you'll really need this but cannot hurt
I'd say you need this stuff in roughly this order. get a money belt that straps to your chest
That's pretty much the safest system to carry stuff.
Now here is a really important part of the plan. I'd scan everything into pdf documents and then upload not only to google drive or something, but also I'd SEND the pdfs to a trusted friend OUTSIDE of the US. In an emergency you can contact them and they can send the pdfs back to you. And in an emergency a pdf scan of your passport can be as useful as the passport itself. So scan everything, make back up copies and send to a trusted 3rd party outside the states.
I'd also bring the following:
- 3 pair underwear
- 3 undershirts
- 3 bras
- 2 pairs warm winter trousers
- 1 flannel shirt
- 1 sweater
- 1 heavy coat
- boots, protective or hiking
- 2 liters water min
- some food, summer sausage, crackers etc
- flashlight
- small knife
- computer if it is a small one
- compass
- map of route and of destination
- am battery operated radio, spare batteries
- first aid kit
- tampons
I'd carry all of that in a back pack, not the smallest but also not the largest. A heavy blanket should be tied around the outside of it. Also bring a hat and a scarf, very useful pieces of clothing.
2. Have a plan
The biggest problem that people will face at the beginning of a real catastrophe is not the catastrophe itself but rather panic. everyone should, as a matter of course have 30 days food supply at home and really 30 days water ( 30 gallons per person in the house.)
You and only you can decide what your plan is. I can point out the following facts:
- American cities cannot function without gasoline and electricity. They will quickly degenerate into shooting zones like Escape from New York.
- Most Americans are idiots. They have no clue about real survival. Knowing how to dig a latrine is far more useful than having a gun.
- Americans are weak they give up quickly. They have little real gumption to stick to something difficult.
- If you are going to stay in the country I'd say you need to be somewhere where you can get food easily. Plan accordingly and know that the locals may not be at all happy with your sudden arrival as you are a threat to their food supply. Be forewarned.
- Most people have no clue about farming.
- Most of the survivalist idiots will manage to kill each other off in the first 100 days of collapse. The best way to stay alive is stay away from such idiots. plan accordingly...
Personally my plan would be as follows.
If could I would leave now, on extended vacation. Failing that I would carefully watch what happens in the North Korean sector, the Iran sector and probably the south china sea, as well as the Baltic and the Ukraine. I would also watch the financial market (from the sidelines now is the time to get out BEFORE it crashes you should be sitting in 100% cash or cash and gold or something NO bit coin I'll come back to that), there will probably be a 48-72 hour ramp up phase before the shit hits the fan. When you see that happening I'd book the first ticket out of the country. However I would have put some thought into where I was going to land first. If you have ancestors from a country in the last 4 generations that is a prime target, you may have some advantages in such countries. In most of the world if your grandparents had a specific citizenship you may have the right to immediate citizenship in that country. What languages do you speak? What cultures do you like? What places are going to be stable? Obviously i would not go to the Ukraine as my escape route out of the US in the event of a major breakdown. I would try to pick a place that is compatible with your personality, you may be there a long long time.
If you can carry small denomination gold coins. Those are convertible anywhere to local cash. silver is also good just not as compact. Travellers checks are OK, don't depend on your credit cards, It's likely that a major attack on the US would bring down the electrical system and shut down your credit cards. remember cash and things easily convertible to cash are king, all else is worthless. forget about bit coin, it's going to be useless and highly unstable, and if you are on the run trying to stay alive this is no time to be speculating in the 21st century version of tulip bulbs. it's going to be useless when you need it. and you will need cash to buy food, shelter, bribe people etc. so prepare for that.
US dollars wont be worth much. you should have a large stock of either gold coins (Swiss or South African are the best probably.) Swiss francs, Euros. Gold is your best place to carry value across borders etc.
You can expect the dollar to drop up to 95% in the first days of the coming crisis. Calculate prices accordingly (40 dollars a gallon for gas, 20k for a plane ticket to the next country, etc.)
You need to be ready to move. One med sized back pack and your chest wallet. Leave everything else behind. It will do you no good.
When you arrive where you are going be patient, be prepared to show all your paperwork, and learn fast how to work with the system. Do all you can to learn the local language as fast as possible, it will pay you back thousands of times over. Be prepared to be in shock, be prepared to watch others freak out as the situation develops etc. Keep your head down, learn the language and get a job, as fast as possible and get to work building some kind of stability wherever you are at. Do not focus on the past, focus on the here and now, and get yourself ready to survive whatever develops. Don't be a fatalist. most societies, unlike America, have much stronger social cohesion than the US and if you speak the local language and accept their customs its highly likely that will secure your place there. Also your education. that is all important, smart people are better set up to function in a new culture, they are simply easier to employ normally. so bring those degrees. And good luck in your new land. don't look back, it didn't work for Lot's wife.
So see... Guns have little to do with it. If you need a gun, and you aren't a trained soldier with real survival skills I'd say you'll be lucky to last a year. Good luck. You'll need it more than the person in the paragraph above....
